Flagyl - Chest Infection

Andreas Eschbach - live in Berlin

© René Durant
Andreas Eschbach is my favorite German author, of whom I have almost all the books on my shelf to stand (and of course read). The more I am pleased that this year he finally sometimes a reading in Berlin keeps what is so far only happened once or twice.

At first March he comes to literature in the Brecht House . The motto of the event is "tell of the future" and Eschbach will read several short texts, aims to provide the approach to the debate on the future of literary works. The reading will take place in a special section on science fiction.
I just hope that there not only physicists and hardcore science fiction fans are around me, because then I would feel a bit out of place. But perhaps even the one or Eschbach other fan of you and that day happened to be in Berlin. :-)

If I go, that would be actually my first real live reading. What authors did you already watched live?

On his website you can by the way listen to an online-reading of his short story "Garden of Eden" from the anthology "A pristine world": Click here

Small World - a small title for a great book

"He will no longer know whether it is summer or winter, day or night, he will not be able to dress or wash. He'll be wearing diapers and must be fed, he will know no one, no longer know where he is, and ultimately not remember who he is. "

People are more surprised than as Konrad long after he has burned the magnificent house of the family cook by mistake, will not be released. But Konrad, mid-sixties, is an old family friend who grew up with her son Thomas, and therefore can not simply be abandoned, even when it is increasingly felt as a burden. Because lately he suffers from memory dropouts which was also the cause of the fire in the house.
In this phase Konrad meets the love of his life and wants to build her a new life, to finally its independence to win the all-determining family cook. He soon became even do not know the name of his beloved ...
All observed Elvira Senn, the magnate of the Koch family, which has led since the death of her first husband, the fortunes of the company like a hawk. For more Konrad forget the present, the more the earliest childhood memories push forward. And Elvira is far from right ...

My opinion

"Small World" is one of the most touching books I've read lately and offers a weird interesting and instructive description of Alzheimer's disease, completely authentic and believable acts. very sympathetic, but without pressing on the tear gland, Suter describes how a man loses slowly to oblivion, until he became a permanent nursing care. Conrad's disease forms the framework of this family story that takes almost Crime traits, the deeper one gets involved in the mystery of the family cook. The resolution of the mystery at the end is not overly surprising, but very well thought out and engrossing as a detective story written.

with ease and an unerring instinct for the right words Suter told in this novel of social criticism, the sad story of Conrad, who range from family life Koch was sustained. He had been an early childhood friend of the poor of the manufacturer's son Thomas, who had to be always there when Thomas asked for his company. His own interests he has always returned and so never something right can make his life, so it is with mid-sixties still rely on donations from the chef. When his memory lapses are getting worse, we see it as a convenient way to deport him in a home.

Konrad I love the course of the book thus obtained as a true family member and was deeply affected when he has left his memory always continue to fail and have rejoiced at every little Success in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. But the other characters are drawn very impressive, such as the young Simon, the wife of the heir of the cooking empire, which is doing hard time in the cold, repellent einzufinden family and accept the affairs of her husband.

Small World is the most successful debut novel by Martin Suter and is considered the first part of the so-called "neurological trilogy, including" The Dark Side of the Moon "and" A Perfect Friend "are and where still a neurological disease in the foreground stands. Conrad's story is not finished with Small World, and very satisfying, I must stick to this point. Who in the book can not take the time, I recommend the same film with Gérard Depardieu, who last year appeared

My conclusion. Absolute Recommended Reading!

brutal murders, divine beings and the environment. Does this fit? I had my reservations as to whether we can turn this into a harmonious blend. And Asa Black has managed, in fact, only in part.

The book is actually written quite well, but there were still a few points I noticed are negative. The story starts out very exciting with a grisly murder, but then leaves. Although the plot is still written exciting, but the connection to the Nephilim and the motive of the "evil" seemed to me very simply far-fetched to be satisfied with the thriller. What I got on my nerves a bit: Nova and the other protagonists had at each place to which they came, first briefly describe what was there previously ever been. It sounds trite, but if you read for the umpteenth time, must ensure that the place used to be a monastery, a green meadow was, etc., it is an already negative in the eye.

Here are some examples:
"... went up the stairs to Ryssgarden whose name went back to the Russian camp houses over seventy, who had been standing there in the seventeenth century."
"When Nova went outside and saw the stairs to Stockholm's oldest square in front of him, [..] In the seventeenth century he had served as a place of execution. "
" Lost in thought happened Nova, the house number thirteen, the houses in the fifteenth century, a monastery for the elderly and sick people had. "

These sets run through the whole book. I had often the feeling that the author has encountered in her research on some interesting historical facts about Stockholm, which they now wanted to put in the book, which is not in itself, reprehensible is. Unfortunately, other than a short sentence, nothing more to say and so they remain descriptions unnecessary edge information, one has immediately forgotten.
by Nova but also you get some facts about pollution, especially the problems of carbon dioxide emissions with. However, this makes me even from Ökothriller not just because the murder victim polluters.
Nevertheless, the story of a good suspense and 3 / 4 of the book I found really exciting. But then the thing came with the divine essence ... well, from then on the killings were just a little implausible. Perhaps the author would have more but to restrict it to a Ökothriller rather have a supernatural component to bring in. Currently working At a continuation of Novas history, perhaps there is some more background about the Nephilim delivered.

This book I recommend, therefore, rather only to those who like such a genre mix and excitement, but not too much emphasis on positive motives . lay

______________
My opinion

with "I will not kill you," Dan Wells finished one of the most original for me trilogies in recent years and makes us long for the last time John's sociopathic life. Although he still feels the desire to kill, but said they had found in his hunt for the demons of a valve. And in a way he grows up: he was in the two previous books, always careful to keep themselves under control and suppress his instincts, he found that this volume is no longer so difficult, and instead have other aspects in his life come to the fore. Such as his affection for Marci. This brought with it a change that had just missed the second volume a bit.

In the previous one had a little more about the demons, among other things, that they are distinguished by what they lack, so I was more tense, as no one would appear. And I was not disappointed. Until shortly before the end no one knows exactly who she is and what their special properties. For the grand finale of the series rewarded us Dan Wells with a grand final and the book leaves me satisfied storing it.

The final volume is as usual exciting from first page to last and masterfully mixes Thriller and Fantasy, which has just been for me the attraction of the series. Congratulations to Dan Wells for this great book series! I hope it was not the last time that I've read about him ...

Jawbone Removal With Cyst

The city is not really missing children

Gaia lives with her family outside the enclave, the rich city, there are always clean drinking water, enough food for all, and even electricity. This can also benefit people in the poor suburbs outside the wall out, have struck a deal: food and clean water against the first three children are born every month.

Gaia's mother is a midwife and therefore it is for them no question the profession to take it. From an early age she accompanied her mother, where it has raised the children to Enklavenmauer. It has this approach has never questioned. But suddenly be arrested than their parents of the enclave, Gaia begins to doubt the system. What have wrought their parents? And why the enclave desperately needs the children of the suburbs?

My opinion

I love dystopian literature, so I am very pleased that this genre now reached more young people's literature. Gaia's story takes place sometime in the 24th Century, after an air disaster, the population apparently has seriously depleted and water is a rarity. What happened, we learn (yet).

It noted, however, that this book is also intended to include younger teens, because the attempt of a dystopia has failed completely. On the one hand, it seems the company within the enclave of callous, cold-hearted people there to watch the unscrupulous in the execution of a pregnant woman and find it right that people outside the wall to take away every month, 3 children. On the other hand, Gaia deal but almost only people who mean well with her and help her at all times willingly. Really cruel acts against it actually does not. Inveterate Dystopia fans the story will therefore be shallow, I find them to be targeted age group but very reasonable.

also made me the title and the blurb still expect a great mystery, but this was not the case. Everything is explained logically and the children are not actually "disappeared", only grow under a different name within the enclave. Do not worry, this will soon clear at the beginning and I will take nothing here anticipated. Why the enclave, the children need, but I leave you to find out myself :-) So I think the track very nice, but somewhat misleading, as suits the English title "Birth Marked" but better.

Despite this small criticism, I put down the book not just because even though the writing style is quite simple (of course at a children's and youth book), but it is very exciting and lovingly written. Gaia is likeable from the start, but also naive as a little girl, despite her sixteen years. It recognizes the atrocities of the enclave until they are out on your own. And more by happy accident, she finds out what happened to their parents. But precisely because of their innocent way you win it very quickly and looks nice and is suffering with her.

remains open, the end of history, but you can see already in the middle of the book, that Gaia's story is not over yet says. A look at the publisher's website reveals that this book is the beginning of a series. Furthermore I am very excited now and wait for the sequel, because Gaia's story holds a lot of potential, even outside the Enklavenmauern. I recommend this book for children and youth continue without reservation!
