The colors of the cruelty

"He had learned to share his world, And that means that he could always change faster. He lived always in the present moment. Selma, he enjoyed a family nest life. A few doors down Ursula waited in an ivory-white ski suit and a suitcase with him. Later, he wondered how safe it was to move from a life world to another have been able, as a smart criminal, he thought, yes, he was a Grausamkeitsspezialist become and had seen it as a joyful affirmation. "

Richard lives a double life. A life of security, love and stability with his wife Selma and their children, and a Life of pleasure and freedom with his mistress Ursula. When this leaves him, he tried to beat it out of my head, buying an old farmhouse in the mountains, which he restored with his family. But Ursula still dominated his thoughts and leaves it to the family idyll stifle almost.
As it because it offers the opportunity as a foreign correspondent in divided Germany to work, he does not hesitate and let his wife and children finished house back. But just in Berlin, shortly before the Wall fell, he meets Ursula again ...

My opinion

"The colors of the cruelty" is the story of a man torn inside. On the one hand, he loves his wife and children about everything and wants to hurt them in any case, on the other hand, he begins an affair with his colleague, Ursula. He knows that he never wants to spend his life with her, but his thoughts are constantly around them. Especially when Ursula falls in love with him and another behind.

It would be boring if all authors were writing in the same way, and so we must take our hats off to Zoderer, for he has developed a very unique, unusual writing style. Unfortunately, I did my first very difficult trying to find access to his language. It's not that he used unknown or difficult words, and his sentence construction simply require a lot of attention in reading and let the story move forward a bit cumbersome. Especially his sprawling nature descriptions in the first part of the book, which deals almost exclusively with the building of houses in the mountains, I found it tiring and I demanded a lot of patience from. Also, some of Richard's thoughts objections that appear on almost poetic quality, just too confusing and I could read their meaning is not.

Despite the Criticism is the story itself engaging, and deeply emotional, they hold only a little hard to read. Richards disruption of the creeping alienation from his wife and the painful love for Ursula was very noticeable and I could well understand, even if I personally for his conduct morally questionable holding. Richard tries his feelings not only to defend it with lame excuses, but that is why probably never be completely happy, because sooner or later he must always think of the woman who is not straight with him. An insoluble dilemma, so that after the end of the reading remains a bitter aftertaste.

Zoderer has created a character in the book, whose description I would also use it on themselves to form my conclusion to this story: "He's a good writer, although he is barely read, too complicated, he writes in order of are read masses. "
